Listed by Ray White BuderimWelcome to 179-185 Mooloolaba Road, Buderim - a property steeped in history and deeply connected to the story of the local community.
Set across more than 5,000m2 of land, this significant holding forms part of the historic Mons Mari property, a name meaning Mountain by the Sea. Its story dates back to the early 1900s and the pioneering Foote family, whose agricultural achievements helped shape the identity of Buderim.
The land was originally part of an area settled by William Pettigrew before being purchased by Joseph Foote circa 1908. Under the Foote family's stewardship, the property became a productive agricultural holding, with dairy cattle, bananas, pineapples, oranges and pecans cultivated across the land.
Of particular historical significance was the discovery in 1908 of the Mons Mari banana, a natural mutation named by Joseph Foote. The variety went on to become one of the most commercially important bananas in Australian horticulture, giving the property and its name a lasting place in Australia's agricultural history.
In 1913, the family built the house that still proudly stands on the property today - a character-filled residence that has stood the test of time. In 1954, the home was thoughtfully converted into three separate flats, adding a new layer to its history and functionality while retaining its original charm.
The Foote family's contribution to Buderim extended well beyond agriculture. Following the tragic death of Eric Joseph Foote, Joseph's son, during World War I, his brothers Arnold and Hubert Foote donated 17.5 hectares of adjoining land in 1948 to establish the Eric Joseph Foote War Memorial Sanctuary. The sanctuary remains a treasured part of the Buderim landscape and a lasting tribute to those who served.
Today, the Foote legacy can still be seen throughout the surrounding area, with landmarks including Foote Avenue and Foote Ridge carrying the family name forward.
179-185 Mooloolaba Road remains a rare opportunity to own a piece of Buderim's rich and fascinating history - a place where agriculture, family, community and heritage have come together for more than a century.
